It was officially announced in the Hollywood trades today that Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Blade:Trinity) has been cast as Green Lantern for the upcoming film adaptation set to begin filming in January. Reynolds was one of three final choices including Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog) and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover). Green Lantern is being directed by Martin Campbell, best known for directing two of the better Bond films of the last couple of decades: Golden Eye and Casino Royal.
The movie adaptation will be based on Hal Jordan, a test pilot who is chosen to be a Green Lantern when an alien named Abin Sur crash lands on Earth and sends his ring to find a “being with the ability to overcome great fear” to replace him. Insiders say that the movie will feature the entire Green Lantern Corps and Jordan’s relationship to “the greatest Green Lantern”, Sinestro. An animated feature, Green Lantern: First Flight, featuring a similar plot line will be released on DVD July 28th.

I’ve always liked Reynolds as an actor and he’s a fellow comic geek so I think he’ll do his best to make it a good movie. That said, I still don’t think he was the best choice. Chris Pine (Kirk from the new Star Trek) would have owned it. I’m actually surprised that Reynolds was even up for the role considering he’s attached to Deadpool and has done a few other Marvel movies already.
I really liked his Deadpool (before “OMG EVERY POWER EVAR”). I think he will do the role justice, but I also find it …… interesting how much work he is getting in comic book movies.

Heh, thanks. I’ve actually been reading back over Sinestro Corps War and Reynolds actually looks a lot like the Reis version of Hal. The more I think about it the more Reynolds as Hal grows on me. I’ve always been a fan of Reynolds work, and I feel like he’s really been underrated as an actor given his role choices. this could really be the movie where he can show fans that he knows what he’s doing. I think h’es perfect as Deadpool, and he was my favorite for Wally West, but I think he’ll do Hal “Justice!” (Pun intended.)
i think he should be the flash cuz hes funny as hell not green lantern
